The
Rathaus is the city of Wiesbaden government building where the City Council
meets. There are many business offices and conference rooms
here. The Oberburgermeister (the mayor) has his office in this building.
It was built in 1888 and is made of red sandstone rocks from the Odenwald
(an area near here). It was damaged during World War II in 1945.
It was rebuilt in 1951. The white front walls replaced the broken
and ruined sandstone brick. It could be rebuilt quickly and cheaply with
the substitute white plaster. |
