photo- KurhausThe Kurhaus is one of the most impressive buildings in town and the cultural center. It was built in 1907 to replace the old Kurhaus that was built in 1810.  The cost was 6,000,000 DM.

It is 381 feet long and was built in a classical design.  It has 6 columns and a gable with the inscription of "Aquis Mattiacis" meaning the waters of the Mattiaci, an ancient German tribe who once lived here.

Inside, there are several concert halls, meeting rooms, a reception room, and a large gambling casino.  The gambling casino has dark wood and is decorated with original lamps and pillars from the old Kurhaus.  There is a restaurant which is part of the Kurhaus, and it also has the original beautiful dark wood and fixtures.
