Speech
and Language Department at Hainerberg Elementary School is a special program
established by public law to help students having difficulty with articulating
and expressing themselves. Our school has 2 full time teachers
who work with students from preschool to 5th grade. They use a variety
of service models to provide the least restrictive environment in the program.
The
teachers work with students individually or in small groups. They also
team with the classroom teacher to meet the goals of the IEP for
each student. Parents are an integral part of the child's education
and both speech pathologist meet with the parents on a regular basis to
insure a follow through with skill acquisition at home.
Speech
and Language is a remedial program The philosophy behind it is that we
learn by doing and speech is an intigral part of learning.
Everything we do has to be meaningful. We use a variety of activities
to encourage speech and speech remediation
Teachers
in our Speech Department begin helping children at a very early age.
Our language therapist is participating with these students during their
snack time. She is not only introducing new words to them but
she is also role modelling the correct sounds in words.
Learning
becomes fun.....not a chore! |
