The School Psychologist
How can I help?
Stress and the Military Family
The families and children that we serve may experience
frequent reassignments, extended deployments, demanding work hours,
prolonged periods in the field, and other unique demands that tax the
cohesiveness and well-being of military families. Because of these special
circumstances, students attending DoDDs schools may have additional
needs for psychological and mental health services.

School Psychological Services
The goal of school psychological services is to promote mental and physical
wellness and to facilitate student learning. School psychologists provide
a range of services for the benefit of students. These services may
include:
• Consultation.
Consultation involves meeting with concerned teachers and/or parents
in a problem-solving forum to address student needs. The goal of consultation
is to understand the student’s needs, and to develop, implement,
and coordinate home, school, and/or community interventions and strategies
to foster student success.
• Counseling.
The school psychologist works with students individually or in groups.
The goal of counseling is to develop positive coping skills and promote
wellness. Students can develop positive life skills in areas such as
problem solving, mood management, and interpersonal relations.
• Psychoeducational
Assessment. The school psychologist may
conduct assessments as needed to aid in the development of appropriate
interventions and services.
• Case Study Committee.
The school psychologist serves on the Case Study Committee (CSC). The
school psychologist supports the special education program through pre-referral
activities, assessments and recommendations, eligibility determination,
and services as needed.
• Student Support
Team. The school psychologist serves on our Student Support
Team (SST). Our SST is a team of educators who meet to develop collaborative
intervention plans to address student concerns.
• Crisis Management
Team. The school psychologist assists in providing crisis intervention
services. The Crisis Management Team (CMT) provides assistance to students,
staff, and parents who are experiencing distress related to events such
as deployment, trauma, divorce, disaster, violence or death.
• Pupil Personnel
Services. The school psychologist is a member of the Pupil
Personnel Services (PPS) Team, which includes School Counselors, Nurses,
and Psychologists. We strive to work closely with families and the community
to provide services that promotes optimum success, wellness and safety
for all students.
