Language Arts/Reading Specialist (L.A.R.S.)

The Department of Defense Dependents Schools Language Arts/Reading instructional program is designed to: 
  • promote an appreciation for literature
  • stimulate the desire to read and write, 
  • foster the development of reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing skills, 
  • encourage reading and writing as life long habits.

Our Language Arts and Reading Specialists are professionals with advanced preparation and experience in the teaching of reading and writing.  They are responsible for the performance of literacy learners in general and for struggling learners in particular.  They are involved in supporting the work of the classroom teachers and in developing an effective school-wide reading program.

Responsibilities

The Language Arts/Reading Specialists have many responsibilities in our school.  These are their many jobs:
check Assist teachers with the implementation and management of the adopted language arts/reading program.
check

Provide student instruction to supplement, not replace, regular classroom instruction.

check Promote and foster professional growth and development.
check Provide language arts/reading resource services to teachers.
check Provide assessment services for students.
check Collaborate with other specialists
