Sure Start

Teaching Philosophy
Sure Start teachers run a
developmentally appropriate early childhood program. Each child
is seen as an individual with a variety of wants and needs. DoDDS
pre-school standards, parent and community input, and observations are
used throughout the year for planning. This ensures our program
is fit for children and families with various backgrounds.
The Sure Start program was
modeled and designed after the Head Start Program found in many state-
side schools. It is a free full day program which incorporates education,
health, social services and parent involvement. All children are
required to go through medical, dental and developmental screenings.
Nutritious snacks and lunches are provided and served daily.
Parents play an active role in their child's education through the required
parent involvement hours and parent meeting. The core of the program
is based on developmentally appropriate practices. The environment,
materials, routines and activities are appropriate for each child's age,
individual needs and cultures.
Children must turn 4
years old by October 31 of the current school year in order to be considered
for enrollment. Priority is given to families whose rank is E-4 or
below. All others will be considered if space is available after
E-4s and below have been placed. All applications are reviewed and
rated based on established criteria for Sure Start. Applications
are accepted throughout the year and considered when space becomes available.
Please pick up an application at Hainerberg Elementary School, the
local CDC or the Welcome Center.
