MUSIC IS:
  science  It is exact, specific.
mathematical It is based on the subdivisions of time into fractions, which must be done instantaneously.
foreign language Most of the terms are in Italian, German, or French.  It is a highly developed kind of shorthand that uses symbols to represent ideas.
history It usually reflects the environment and times of its creation.
physical education It requires fantastic coordination of every part of our body.. hands, arms, lips, facial muscles, etc. which respond instantly to the sound the ear hears and the mind interprets.
art  It is the one thing science cannot duplicate: humanism, feeling, emotion.

That is why MUSIC IS TAUGHT at H.E.S.!

Discover: Music Matters 2
   

      AT H.E.S, music is done with a "hands on" approach.  Through singing, games, sign language, dancing, moving, listening, playing instruments, and creating our own verses and music, we meet the needs of our students.  All third graders learn to play recorder instruments.  Fourth and fifth graders participate in chorus, musicals, and handbells. Our students are exposed to varied instrumental, choral and dance groups throughout the school year from around the world (Russian Folk Dance Group, 76th Army Band, Native American Dancers) 

Music is taught in our school so our students in the next millennium will recognize beauty, will be sensitive, will be closer to an infinite beyond this world, will have something to cling to, will have more love, compassion, gentleness, good ---in short, more life!
